Lakesmere was called upon to demonstrate its skill and expertise working with a variety of different products when the company was appointed to create the striking building envelope of London Luton Airport’s new terminal building. Lakesmere's design team worked closely with both the architect and main contractor to deliver the complex specification, paying particular attention to the interface between the different types of materials.

The impressive sweeping ski-slope roof is constructed using Kalzip standing seam aluminium sheeting, naturally curved with a stucco embossed finish, including integrated Levolux louvres and smoke vents and fitted with syphonic drainage and a mansafe system. The Lakesmere team site rolled the 90 metre long roof sheets to eliminate the need for endlaps and produce a clean crisp roofline. The team also suggested the use of a structural Kalzip roof liner to produce a rigid deck under the roof but also provide a flatter internal soffit, which was created using Sotech external aluminium Optima soffit panels. The wall facing the passengers on arrival features Ame Euro Proteus 20 wall panels constructed in anodised finish with Gasell GA 50/150 wall panels in Silver PVF2 finish on each of the gable ends. Schüco BV60 double glazed curtain walling using special enhanced mullions and glass complete the airside elevation.
