Located in Peasedown St John, Bath, CircleBath is the first in a new generation of compact hospitals from Circle Health.

Working closely with main contractor Vinci and architect Foster + Partners at pre-tender stage to understand the highly-specified tolerances of the building was key to the project’s success. In a change to the original specification, Lakesmere suggested the innovative use of structural composite panels for both the outpatient ground floor and first floor bedroom walls.

The structural composite panels had the capacity to span the necessary area without secondary steel supports, provided efficient thermal insulation, and a completely flat, uninterrupted surface on which to attach shingle tile cladding.

Not only did the panels provide an economic and efficient building envelope – they also ensured work could progress on the interior while the time consuming process of choosing the exterior shingle tile finish took place. After much deliberation, Lakesmere imaginatively suggested marine grade, mill-finish aluminium; a solution which perfectly matched both the architect’s and local planner’s vision as well as the project’s budget.

Lakesmere’s work was completed with Schüco FW50+ aluminium curtain walling and thermally insulated AWS 65 windows, installed in a rectangular slot (complete with mini herb window garden!), set back from the facade.
