Millennium Tower provides a stunning waterside location in the heart of an established private residential district of Salford Quays, with an abundance of cultural, sporting and leisure attractions on the doorstep.

As one of the tallest buildings at the Salford Quays in Manchester, the design of the Millennium Tower development at Erie Basin takes inspiration from the notion of a ship launching into water, with the smaller of the two residential buildings tapering forwards over the dockside walkway and the second higher block rising 20 storeys above the car park podium.

Lakesmere was appointed to complete various roofing and cladding work on the two apartment towers and the commercial building. The Lakesmere team was faced with the challenging task of ensuring the successful integration of numerous different product systems and as a result, worked closely with both its supply chain and the other on-site contractors to effectively address the complex building envelope.

Responsible for the design and installation of the Kalzip aluminium roofs that feature on both residential blocks, Lakesmere also completed various fabrications and flashings. On the taller apartment block, the team installed a Permaquick waterproof membrane roof and paviours.

The attractive façade design of both residential blocks featured the use of contrasting Sotech Optima aluminium panels and terracotta rainscreen cladding, all to a 500m module. The team used specialist 3D CAD software at the initial design stage to ensure that the two different finishes blended together seamlessly and created the attractive ‘crisp’ look that the architect desired.

Work was also completed on the single storey A3 unit which, located adjacent to the tallest residential tower, will incorporate various bars and restaurants. Designed to add contrast and interest to the rest of the scheme, the building facade design features Marley Eternit Natura cladding.
