Lakesmere North was appointed by main contractor BAM Construction (North East) to deliver a striking sandstone rainscreen cladding package as part of the creation of Bradford College's new city centre campus.

Named after one of Yorkshire's most famous artists, The David Hockney Building at Bradford College features a Northills Yorkstone rainscreen, a locally sourced stone from a quarry around 10 miles south of Bradford itself. The Lakesmere North team worked closely with the main contractor and Bond Bryan Architects to create the eco-friendly campus building that was designed to complement the mill and warehouse buildings that feature heavily in Bradford's local landscape.

Lakesmere specified the use of NVELOPE's 'helping hand' bracket system to support the sandstone cladding and to help speed up the installation process on what was a very challenging contract with a tight site footprint. Lakesmere's additional scope of work included the installation of Tata Steel Trisomet composite panels to the stair core and riser walls, feature entrance cladding and soffits in timber rainscreen and various flat roofing packages.

The new campus replaced the existing building, which was deemed unsuitable for future needs. The new building not only allowed Bradford College to reduce the number of buildings and sites from which it operates, but has also considerably improved its space efficiency. Work was completed on the new campus building in summer 2014.
