Proud winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2015

I'd like to take the chance to say how impressed we are with the level of information and quality of drawn communication contained within your drawings released to date, it really does make our job that bit easier and I expect the final outcome to be that much better as a result. Please pass our thanks onto your team.

Jon Rigby, Architect, Bond Bryan Architects (AMRC Factory 2050, South Yorkshire)

Lakesmere’s use of BIM on this project provided excellent visualisation to fully understand what the end project was going to look like. The 3D models allowed for good coordination with the subcontractors providing the steelwork, helping to manage the tricky interfaces and identifying potential conflicts early in the process. The use of BIM also ensured the off-site manufacture of the Kalzip panels ran smoothly, resulting in accurate and efficient installation once on site.

Kevin Sykes, Project Director, Wates Construction (Central Marketing Hub, Greenwich Peninsula)

Lakesmere as contractor for HETCo in the Heathrow T2A Project, delivered the new terminal roof and North elevation cladding package. The “three-waved” roof shape, with 115 km of Kalzip sheets and 5000sqm of north light glazing, is the main architectural feature of the terminal building envelope. It was very challenging in all aspects, design and installation complexity, very programme demanding and with the logistic constrains of working within Heathrow airport. Works have been completed to the specified quality standards and we can proudly say that the T2A job has reached the highest Health & Safety records in the construction industry.

Antonio Rubio, Project Leader, HETCo (Heathrow Terminal 2)

On such a high-profile and challenging contract, the innovation and collaborative working practices that Lakesmere brought to the contract were invaluable and the continuous support from the senior managers on the team was both reassuring and extremely effective in keeping the job running smoothly. Lakesmere was a very proactive member of the project team and kept driving the construction programme forward, which in turn motivated other contractors to get the job done and meet the deadlines. The Lakesmere team certainly went the extra mile and delivered the project on time and to a very high standard, which was no mean feat considering the challenging environment with the station being kept open to the public and the majority of works required to be completed at night. As a key member of the Reading Station project team, Lakesmere’s highly skilled workmanship, technical expertise and excellent safety record was key to the company’s appointment on this contract and also a major contributing factor to the overall success of the project. Costain and Network Rail are both delighted with the end result and with Lakesmere’s performance throughout.

Brian Fisher, Project Director, Costain (Reading Station Redevelopment)

The roof structure of Slough Bus Station is without doubt one of the project’s most complex features and as the appointed roofing contractor, Lakesmere was instrumental in bringing our initial designs to life and delivering them with great technical skill and accuracy. I have been very pleased with Lakesmere’s performance on the building and we are working on another project with them at the moment.

Matthew Bedward, Partner, Bblur Architecture (Slough Bus Station)

The complex design of the new Slough Bus Station’s roof demanded a level of skill and technical expertise that many other roofing contractors may have failed to deliver but we were extremely impressed with Lakesmere’s work throughout the construction programme.

Roy Jones, Project Manager, McLaren (Slough Bus Station)

I have found Lakesmere to be a very forward thinking organisation. They have been one of our Strategic Partners for some years now. We frequently use their expertise at bid stage where they become an important part of our team by providing technical and costing advice. Post award they provide excellent design and detailing support, diligently dealing with complex issues. We find that on site they steal a march on their competitors by quickly embedding themselves into our team focussing hard on the quality of installation and programme compliance. They have a first class safety regime which is evidenced by their safety record, constantly looking to improve. We get excellent feedback from them which allows us to address our weaknesses. We struggle to find anyone else in their peer group who they take on board our feedback in such a positive fashion and always come back with a resulting stronger offering. The support they provide us is not untypical of what we have come to expect from a true Partner who consistently delivers high performance.

Richard Howell, Head of Supply Chain, Costain (various projects)

It was a pleasure to work with such a professional team. As the main contractor on the O2 Arena development, I believe that Lakesmere’s innovative and highly competent design solutions were vital to the overall success of the project. In addition, the team’s ‘can do’ attitude, attention to detail and overall enthusiasm and commitment to the project help to ensure the architect’s design was effectively and accurately realised.

As Aintree Racecourse involved the UK’s first-ever use of the new Kalzip XT aluminium system, Lakesmere’s proven ability to utilise the latest 3D CAD design technology was key to their appointment and the level of skill and attention to detail that the team demonstrated was vital to the project’s success. Having previously worked with Lakesmere on similar projects, we were pleased when they were selected to complete the complex building envelope at Chill Factore. The Lakesmere team were of great help in the co-ordination of the design, and they installed the cladding package with exceptional accuracy and skill. Lakesmere’s knowledge and experience of working with various products and systems was a key element in the project’s success. It was an extremely challenging project for all of us to work on and we are delighted with the work that Lakesmere carried out.

The St. Stephen’s project features a highly complex external envelope and Lakesmere certainly rose to challenge. The finished result is excellent and the team was able to realise the architectural drawings with exceptional accuracy and skill. Lakesmere and Holder Mathias performed brilliantly as a team and this close collaboration was undoubtedly the key to the success of St. Stephens.

Lee Whitley, Senior Technician, Holder Mathias Architects (St. Stephens, Ferensway, Hull)

The creation of the waste transfer store is a vitally important part of Trawsfynydd power station’s decommissioning programme and the work that Lakesmere has completed doesn’t disappoint. It was essential that the design and installation of the fabrications used on the store were not only suitable for the specific application but also added aesthetic value. The nature of the project presented many different challenges and Lakesmere’s skilful execution of the design and installation of the Kalzip fabrications and flashings was impressive.

Jas Sandhu, Project Leader, Laing O’Rourke (Trawsfynydd Power Station)

The use of tapered Kalzip aluminium forms a major part of the external envelope and the successful execution of the challenging design relied heavily on Lakesmere’s installation skills. The team’s professionalism and proactive approach to what was an extremely complex project was vital to the scheme’s overall success.

Carl De Witt, Architect, 3DReid (Newcastle Air Traffic Control Tower)

Leigh Academy was an extremely complex project and the roof design presented one of the biggest challenges. Galliford Try enjoyed a very positive working relationship with Lakesmere and through close collaboration, shared expertise and best practice, the project was successfully delivered on time and to budget. Our partnering philosophy, coupled with Lakesmere’s proven track record of completing unusual and intricate roofing designs, were both vital to realising the architect’s vision of what is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular educational buildings in the UK

Peter Vernon, Senior Project Manager, Galliford Try (Leigh Academy, Dartford)

Lakesmere’s excellence in design, planning and quality of work proved second to none. It’s rare to come across such a well managed, reliable and responsive company who puts quality first. Frank Sime, Construction Director, Berkeley Homes (Central London) Ltd Always extremely helpful, enthusiastic and willing to go the extra mile to help solve and reduce the risk of potential problems and delays, Lakesmere proved to be a valuable member of the project team.

Caroline Gray, Project Manager, Laing O’Rourke (Xscape, Glasgow)

The commitment that Lakesmere showed to the project was outstanding and the individual members of the team were extremely helpful. Quite often we would present them with a just a quick sketch of an idea and they would go away and develop it into something more tangible –Lakesmere’s technical expertise proving invaluable. So good was the relationship that evolved, I have remained in contact with team and have gone to them for technical advice on more than one occasion. I would have no hesitation in working with them again.
